Join us for a riverside wander through Yarra Bend Park on Wurundjeri Country and learn how to identify the different plants that grow there. After our hike, we’ll gather for a picnic and time to connect as a community. Throughout the experience, we’ll engage all senses — even taste-testing some of the edible, weedy species — and foster a deeper appreciation for the diverse flora of Naarm.

Led by Ben Golding (he/him), environmental steward of Andrews Reserve and our go-to plant man, together we’ll explore the varying microclimates of Yarra Bend Park, getting to know the wild plants and animals — both native and non — that populate our local environment.
Our hike (approx 1.5km) will be followed by a picnic featuring some flavours inspired by the identified species. Originally planned as an end of year celebration, Melbourne’s weather had other plans! So join us for what is now our first official event of 2026 and ring in the new year with flora and friends!
