Fungi play a critical role in our ecosystems and help to maintain the health of our forests. Despite their importance, in Australia only 5-10% of fungi species have been described.

In this workshop, we’ll learn about the relationships between fungi, flora, and fauna, some of the current studies being undertaken in Australia, and the value of citizen science to mycology. We’ll also learn and practice the principles of responsible foraging. After learning to identify which mushrooms are safe to forage, we’ll venture into the forest in search of them.

After the forage, we’ll sample our finds with a light afternoon snack. Participants will be able to return home with their collection once all foraged species have been checked by Ema.

Ema Corro is a mycologist and founder of MYCOmmunity, a not-for-profit organisation founded to raise awareness of fungi and their importance to our ecosystems. With a decade of experience, Ema is a myco-material expert and ecologist with a passion for increasing community knowledge around Australian fungi.
