SUPPER HIKE

Heide, Wurundjeri Country
Our Table

The return of our nature-inspired dining series, Supper Hike, was worth the wait. An experience dreamed up and nurtured for more than 12 months, we brought together a team of Tradition Owners, masters of cuisine, and community leaders to realise Supper Hike’s next iteration.

A two-part experience, we first gathered at the foot of a more than 500-year-old scar tree. Led by Boonwurrung and Yorta Yorta man and Wurundjeri educator, Uncle Chris Hume, we wandered through the Heide gardens with special attention to Yaluk Langa, their native landscape project. Uncle Chris was incredibly generous in his knowledge sharing, stopping along the way to speak to both the cultural and ecological significance of the plants and place we gathered.

Our nature immersion was followed by a hyper-local menu crafted by Mollie Nelson-Williams of Our Table and Laura Bolton, head chef at Heide Kitchen. Produce was harvested from the Heide grounds with flavours of foraged native ingredients interwoven through each course.

Sophisticated but not fussy, the afternoon stretched to night with ease — shared stories, a love of food, and an admiration for the rich, diverse context of the land on which we hiked and dined. Guests left with full stomachs, new connections, and a plantable menu of native seeds.

An incredibly generous and joyful afternoon and evening. I found it very inspiring. The Walk and Talk With chris alerted me to a whole new way of seeing heide. The food was superb in every way and kitchen setting was beautiful.
