In 2024, we introduced the first in a nature-inspired dining series, Supper Hike, at Hope Street Radio in Collingwood Yards. Guests were first guided on a short hike through the varying microclimates of Yarra Bend Park, learning the fundamentals of plant identification by picking out both native and invasive species along the way.
The time outdoors was followed by a hyper-seasonal menu crafted by Food for Friends at Hope Street Radio. Participants enjoyed both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage pairings from our sponsors — Minimum Wines, NON and Heaps Normal — while they tested their knowledge learned with a plant ID pop quiz.
The native vs. invasive theme was carried through the evening with native ingredients integrated within the menu and weedy-species repurposed as table centrepieces.
THERE WAS A REAL MAGIC TO THE EVENING, A SENSE OF TRUE CONNECTION. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL TO GO FOR A HIKE AND LEARN ABOUT THE AREA BEFORE SITTING DOWN WITH STRANGERS THAT FELT LIKE FRIENDS TO SHARE A MEAL.e
