Delivered in partnership with The North Face with consultation and support from the Taungurung Land and Waters Council, the weekend brought together diverse communities to marvel over the beauty and mysteries of the night sky.
On a balmy weekend in 2025, with support from The North Face and Taungurung Land and Waters Council, Mappa Outdoor welcomed 35 campers, including members of the Taungurung community, for a weekend inspired by the stars and the centuries of knowledge that live within them.
Led by an astrophysicist and cultural astronomer, our camp under the night sky explored the complementary nature of the science and ancient stories in the stars. Hosted at the largest dark sky site in Victoria, we navigated by moonlight and peered through giant telescopes at nebulas, discussing the existence of galaxies far away before tucking into our The North Face tents for the night.
Over the course of the weekend, we brought together diverse communities, started meaningful conversations, shared meals, and formed uniquely beautiful human connections. A one of a kind experience that will live on in the memories of participants for years to come.
The experience was incredible! the opportunity to engage with astronomers and to use their equipment was a once in a lifetime experience to see stars close up and it completely blew my mind. it is an invaluable experience that you've created to learn the night sky. the weekend inspired a whole world of possibilities for me and my family whilst reconnecting me to sky country. Im deeply grateful for this opportunity and would only highly recommend this to others.
